More miles more smiles

My new 2008 STI

My new 2008 STI

So in case you hadn’t heard yet, I’ve added another Subaru to my list of cars that I’ve owned, but this time I went all out and got the car I’ve wanted since my first WRX back in 2003. On Columbus day I swung over to Patrick Subaru in Shrewsbury and worked a deal with Joe and Tre (great sales guys, I’ve worked with them on two of my Subaru purchases).  For starters I took out a used one they had on the lot, but having had many Subaru’s in the past it just didn’t feel right, something was wrong with the motor. Which was just fine with me as I was looking at getting better finacing on a new one, plus I enjoy the fact that I now have a STI that has been properly broken in and not beat on and left on the lot after 10,000 miles. In comparison with all my previous Subaru’s, this thing just flat out flys. It’s nice having this kind of power under the hood without voiding the warranty! After just about two weeks I still only have about 250 miles on the odometer, but every mile has brought a smile. I will be taking a trip with the car up to New Hampshire this weekend to stretch it’s legs a little more and to pick up some much needed snow tires from a fellow NASIOC member. Snow’s right around the corner and I will be prepared for whatever winter throws my way.

More reviews and notes on the car to follow as we continue down the road….

Soxtober presses on!

October 11th, 2008

Sox playing in October, priceless!

Huge win last night with Dice-K on the mound. Per the norm he pitched himself out of many a sticky situation and came out clean. Had the no-no through 6 which was amazing! Also have to give a little props to Mark Kotsay who came through with another key hit tonight, and how about Jed Lowrie getting it done with the sac fly on a 0-2 count. The playoff sox are back and looking composed as ever. Lets hope Beckett can show some more pitching brilliance tonight.

The “other woman” gets a little cosmetic surgury

Just like new

Just like new

Finally found the time and money to get my Subaru into the repair shop to get that annoying scrape that I received in the Boyton parking lot (I’ll vent on hit and runs later). Many thanks go out to Scott’s Automotive on Nyland St in Worcester, MA for getting her looking pretty again. Click here for a before shot.

Soxtober time again

The Sox might be playing with more heart and determination this year then ever

The Sox might be playing with more heart and determination this year then ever

How sweet it is, the Red Sox are playing baseball in October once again. So today as I sat at my desk working away I thought to myself, how amazing it is that so much has changed in the four short years for Red Sox Nation.

Four years ago sox fans were staring another seemingly impossible feat in the face. Another playoff birth, a quick dealing with the Angels in the ALDS, the sox came face to face yet again with the Yankees. Just a year before they had ended the sox run for a chance at a world series birth with a triumphant home run off the bat of … Aaron Boone? More then that the nation was convinced that “the curse” still lingered, why else would a seemingly competent manager in Grady Little let Pedro Martinez pitch the 8th inning after through well over 100 pitches. But 2004 was a different year. 2004 was a year for the sox to erase 86 years of history while writing a few pages of their own. Cowboys had become idoiots, Curt, Dougie, Orlando, Keith and Bill Miller found themselves with lockers on Yawkey Way, and most importantly the Red Sox were World Series Champions. Going to see a grown man play with puppets

Jeff, Peanut and Walter

Jeff, Peanut and Walter

Tonight the wife and I are going to watch Jeff Dunham (www.jefffdunham.com) perform at the DCU center. This should be interesting live. We’re sitting a ways back (would have rather seen him perform at a much smaller venue, but what can you do). But it should be a great time regardless. I’ll post up a small review after the show.

Post Show Update

We just got back from the show, and it was everything we had expected to see, and much more. Being that this is still the “Spark of Insanity” tour I was a little concerned that the material we’d see might end up being a little stale, but it was 95% brand new material (most of which will be featured on a DVD he has coming out in December), so win-win for us! Happy (belated) Birthday to me

August 23rd, 2008
29 years and counting ...

29 years and counting ...

So ya, your editor in chief here has entered his last year before his 30s (gulp!) and with the official day behind us I’d just like to thank the people that made it special (double thanks to the wife). On tap for tomorrow is a trip to Holden Hills golf course, which is supposed to be a very technical and tight course, with some reachable par 4s ….

Ya, I’m gonna bring extra golf balls.

Rain washes out Fenway

So I was a nice guy and tried to get my mom to a Red Sox game, well Mother nature came in and had other plans. We’ll try again tomorrow night though! We’re not giving up without a fight!

Re-learning how to swing

August 9th, 2008
Are you too good for your home?

Are you too good for your home?

So for whatever reason this year I have found the time and money to actually play golf on a regular basis. I am even playing 9 holes during the week on Wednesday. Mind you, this is more golf or time then I’ve had over the last 10 years as school, racing, and work have endlessly found ways of turning my summer months into a blur. After a few rounds this year I decided that my fifteen year old (to me I bought them used) Ram Tour Grind irons were getting long in the tooth and it was time to start thinking of replacing them. I took a trip down to the local performance center to do an iron fitting. Basically you give them forty bucks and they use high speed cameras and computers to help you judge the flex of shaft that best suits your swing. This is where the journey begins…

Bye Manny …. thanks for … being Manny

August 1st, 2008
Manny Knows how to end a game

Manny sure knows how to end a game

Read up Sox fans, you can’t be too mad at “Manny being Manny”.

Sure, his performance these last few weeks goes against everything that is pure and simple about this long storied institution we call baseball. Complaining openly about management, going as far as saying the Red Sox didn’t deserve him, not playing against the Yankees, faking a knee injury (yes, he did forget which knee he “hurt”, hence why the Sox MRI’d both).

This will all pass come late October, I’ll guarantee it now. I’ll also guarantee something else. Without Manny, the sox would be working on 90 years without a World Series ring. So come October when there’s no room left in the Wild Card race for the 3rd place team in the AL East (TB will finish 2nd, NY will take it) fans will quickly turn to what could have been.
